The Madonna/Whore Complex was coined by Sigmund Freud when he noticed his male clients often couldn’t see women as they were, but rather, their minds polarized women into being either a pure, perfect, beautiful, angelic woman, of whom he was too ashamed to project his sexual desires upon, or a wild, sexually open woman that he was allowed to demean with his sexuality but had no capacity to show respect, love or care to her because she represented the desires in himself he was ashamed of.

This Madonna/Whore Complex has transformed itself into the Madonna / Whore Archetype by many leading edge female activists, for women to explore parts of themselves they feel ashamed of or drawn to. Most generally, it is said, women tend to fall into comfort with one archetype over the other. Those who feel best being good, pure, and gentle are afraid of being sexual, rageful and direct. Those who identify with being strong, sexual, and outspoken are often afraid of their vulnerability, innocence, and the parts of them that could be taken advantage of.

Join Laura Tatar and Ali Tataryn in a gentle and profound exploration of parts around the Madona/Whore Archetypes as we help you to explore and articulate YOUR unique experience within these polarities. Sometimes we don’t even know how we feel or what we resonate with. That’s why we need a group. These circles will draw upon the wisdom of the collective to be mirrors and supports for each participant to dive deeply and personally into the layers and parts of self that would otherwise be left latent, or in such subconscious conflict that we wouldn’t know how to find them in the first place.
